Time Running Out To See Azeri Photography Exhibit!

You’re almost out of time to see Azeri photography currently on display at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. “Contemporary Azeri Photography” features the works of photographers from Azerbaijan. The recurring themes running through the photographs are mountains, oil derricks and crumbling brickwork.

Even though the artistic opportunities in Baku are limited, there is still a culture of photography and what the photographers lack in technical ability they make up for with raw talent and a willingness to learn and experiment with the art form. A number of the featured artists are members of “Wings of Time”, a contemporary art association. Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts offers photography classes.

The exhibit is being held in conjunction with the Fashion and Style in Photography festival and the Days of Azeri Culture in Moscow. Art seems to be developing in Azerbaijan along the same lines as it did in Moscow; the organizer of the Fashion and Style in Photography festival, Moscow House of Photography, started out 10 years ago by featuring photography. Baku has also started an international photography festival and is holding for the second time this spring.

The “Contemporary Azeri Photography” (Vystavka Sovremennoi Fotografii Azerbaidzhana) exhibit will run to May 20 at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art which is located at 25 Ulitsa Petrovka. You are running out of time to take that beautiful Russian lady on a cultural adventure.
