Safe Late Night Taxi Service for Single Moscow Women

Now there is a taxi service that provides safe late night transportation for the single women of Moscow. Pink Taxi was launched in August 2006 by Olga Fomina and two of her friends. The business is a service by women for women. In addition to a safe ride to their destination, the service provides advice and gossip along the ride.

According to some Moscow women, male drivers speed, smoke and don’t really care much about the safety of the passengers. Some women have been picked up in a cab and drugged and raped. The founders of Pink Taxi decided to cash in on that while providing a valuable service to women.

In August the business got only 20 calls. Now they get an average of 140 calls a day and can only answer 70 of them. Not only is the service providing transportation, it also has branched out into picking up school children, grocery runs and flower pickup and delivery. Not bad for a service based on the women-only taxi services offered in London and Tokyo.

The initial fleet of taxis were two Daewoo Nexia cars with two drivers. Now they have 20 cars and 27 drivers and are looking to upgrade to Volvo S40s.
