Russian Women Tennis Players Advance in French Open
Russian woman tennis player, Maria Sharapova made it past her fourth round match yesterday, but not without a battle. Her match with the Swiss player, Patty Schnyder went to two match points with a final score of 3-6, 6-4 and 9-7 in a 2 hour and 37 minute match up that looked like it would go either way until the end.
Sharapova, the former Wimbledon champ, usually plays better on faster surfaces and did not feel comfortable on the clay courts of Roland Garros. She will now meet Anna Chakyetdaze, one of many talented Russian women tennis players, for a spot in the final four.
Sharapova has suffered from many injuries this year and said that she was affected by a sore shoulder at this match. She had a number of unforced errors and problems with her serve, but stuck it out until she was able to come through and win in the end.
The match was not without controversy as Schnyder took issue with a non-call she felt should been called to her benefit. Sharapova remained unmoved while her opponent argued with the refs which did not win her points with the crowd.
