Russian Marriage is Over for Russia’s Richest Man
Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has admitted that his 16-year marriage to his Russian wife Irina is over. The admission comes after five months of denial of an imminent split. The divorce looks to be one of the costly in history.
The former couple has issued a statement confirming that the divorce will not affect Abramovich’s corporate investments which include the British Chelsea Football Club. The couple is divorcing by a consensual agreement in Russia and they have agreed on arrangements for their children (five).
Abramovich has been reported to have been seen out with a young Russian model named Daria Zhukova. He split from his first wife in 1990 and married Irina in 1991.
Some British newspapers have speculated that Irina would be entitled to as much as half of the $18.7 billion fortune and would be the biggest divorce settlement in the world. A 50/50 split in a Russian divorce would be the normal procedure according to Russian law. Others have speculated that while Irina will get some money, it will not be 50%.
Abramovich was just listed as the 16th richest person in the world. He has amassed his fortune from oil and aluminum businesses. There have been pictures on the internet of Abramovich and the beautiful Russian woman Zhukova next to each other which has fueled rumors of the divorce for some time.
