Rotary Club Moscow International Holds Fundraiser To Help Russian Girls and Boys

The Rotary Club Moscow International held its latest fundraising event on Wednesday night, raising over $20,000 by auctioning off 30 Russian contemporary paintings from the mid XX-XXI C.

The event took place in the home of the Italian Ambassador, which is designed in an Art-Nouveau style and hosted over 150 guests who were mostly Rotarians and their friends. The group was hoping to raise $30,000 so that they could purchase medical equipment. The equipment will go to the Russian Children’s Hospital, specifically to the Department of Reconstructive Microsurgery so that Russian girls and boys that are not able to afford surgery there can still benefit from the services of the famous hospital.

Belgian Guy Marchand, the current RCMI secretary, and Italian Carlo Natale, RCMI president from 2001-2002, created the organization in 2001. The RCMI has been involved in a number of charitable projects, aside from the social functions of the organization. Some of those projects include purchasing equipment for Russian orphanages and helping sick Russian girls and boys get lifesaving operations abroad.

The Rotary Club holds fundraisers like these two or three times a year to raise money for these projects. The most well known fundraiser is the Annual Rotary Children’s Music Competition. This not only raises money, but also provides talented Russian girls and boys with the opportunity to perform in front of an international jury in a competitive situation. The Fifth Rotary Children’s Music Competition is on March 26th of this year.
