Kazan State University, founded in 1804, recently celebrated its 202nd birthday. Many Kazan women and men study at the state-assisted university along with people from other areas of the country. The school offers studies in 32 specialties and is one of the largest and oldest institutions of higher education in Russia.

It is considered to be the center for culture and the arts in the area between the Volga and the Urals. Historically, the university was the only scientific center in the eastern part of Russia in the 1800’s. Some of the first books and journals in the area were published at Kazan State University. The Russian Philology society of experts was established there and the university played an important role in the development of theater, art and music in the region.

The architecture of KSU is also considered to be one of the highlights of the area. If you are visiting the Kazan and looking for something to do while on a date, I suggest walking around the campus and taking in the classic Russian style of the buildings that were built during the first part of the 19th century on a hilltop in Kazan. The campus is a popular place for visitors and is considered a “must see” stop for foreign and official delegations that are making their way through the region. Visiting the museums of the university can also make for a pleasant dating experience.
