Finland Popular Russian Tourist Destination
Over the recent holiday season, record numbers of Russian women and men went to Finland. According to the Finnish Tourist Board, tourism from Russia has increased 60% from last year. There are traffic delay warnings being issued for this weekend as travelers return home.
The tourists have been coming to visit during the three weeks after Christmas via train, planes and buses from Moscow and St. Petersburg. The destinations have been the urban centers near the capital and also ski resorts and the Arctic Lapland.
The main reason they go? Shopping. And to take in the clean, environmental friendly country. It’s a perfect as a trip with a pretty single woman. But the shopping is the major draw, with tax free sales going on all through the holidays. Fashion and clothing are the big draws with fur coats being popular.
Many Russians see Finland as a stable, clean and nature-friendly nation that provides ideal holiday conditions, travel officials said. Also, Finland’s past as part the czarist Russian empire and familiar architecture — including a prominent Orthodox church and Russian statues in Helsinki — help them feel at home.
They are spending in record numbers this year too, up to $65 million according to the Finnish tourism experts. Some tourists are taking ferry rides over to neighboring Sweden too. If you are in Russia, maybe visiting a beautiful Russian woman and are looking for something outside of the country, you may want to think about a trip to Finland.
