Alexander Litvinenko Case Still Taking Twists

In the latest news in the Alexander Litvinenko radiation poisoning case, an acquaintance of the ex-spy claims that Litvinenko was going to blackmail a very wealthy Russian businessman.

In a CBS television “60 minutes” report that will air Sunday, a Russian graduate student living in London will talk about speaking to Litvinenko about a book she was writing. She says that he told her he was working on a project and planned to blackmail a Russian oligarch now living in the United Kingdom.

The student, Julia Svetlichnaya, has not revealed who the blackmail victim was, but she says it was not Boris Berezovsky, an exiled Russian business man who is person non gratis with the Kremlin.

Berezovsky himself says that Litvinenko gave him information for his own battle against Putin and the Russian government. Berezovsky also feels that his relationship with Litvinenko could have played a part in his death.

London officials continue to find radiation at sites in the area. The Kremlin still denies any involvement in the poisoning. Litvinenko’s Russian wife, Marina feels that somehow the Russian Government is involved and that her husband would not blackmail anyone.
