The Holidays and Russian Women

Now that the holiday season is upon us, we often get to thinking about family. Family meals, family memories, and our own family. Finding a Russian bride can be a great way to start making your own holiday memories.

As we mentioned in our last post, Russian women love so many of those values that our mothers might have: making sure their families are fed and their children get the highest quality care. While many Russian women are not necessarily religious, the important thing about their orthodoxy is tradition, the kind of thing that makes a holiday memory and creates the type of day you see on the covers of Christmas cards.

So wondering what Thanksgiving would be like in Russia? Well, traditionally, they do not celebrate this distinctively American holiday. However, the tradition of getting together as a family to celebrate life and each other is alive and well! Many Russian women know how to make pumpkin pie and often serve cranberry sauce as a decoration or a condiment. (Note: Many Russian women cook from scratch, not from cans!) Even if they don’t have all of the options for food as we do in America, they do highly value gathering together. And, as they do on their numerous holidays, uncorking the vodka bottle to celebrate! Since they don’t have Thanksgiving, that means no family arguments about who does what or who can or cannot watch (eat in front of) football.

For more information on Russian food and cuisine, try out this Web site. Don’t be afraid of any of the odd sound foods! Many of these are “traditional” Russian dishes, the kind of thing we in American eat on special holidays and shelve the rest of the year.

So get off this blog, browse through this site, and find someone special to connect with! You might really have someone to give thanks for next year.
