Russian Women Through History and Folklore

One way to get to know more about Russian women is through studying the history and folklore of the country. There are many Russian fairy tales that tell the story of the character and personality of the Russian women. You must understand that the moral of most Russian folktales is that you can only gain happiness through suffering that will explain a lot about women from Russia.

Russian fairy tales are also read by young Russian women and men when growing up. They learn about the beauty of women, what sorts of men are suitable for marriage as well as teaching behavior and the importance of household skills.

The stories of Red Cap, Masha and Bear and Three Bears teach that it is good to stay indoors because it is safe and you can control your future life. Some stories, such as Vasilisa The Splendid, Father Frost and Wee Little Havroshechka teach that it is important to be able to clean house, have good sewing skills, cook meals and most importantly, be quiet when needed. A Russian woman learns when growing up that if she is a good girl and works hard she will get a dowry.

It has also been considered bad through the history of Russia for a woman to remain unmarried and they have been exposed to this through stories of romance like Sleeping Beauty, Sivko-Burko and Koschev the Immoral. And stories like The Frog Princess, Sea Tsar and Vasilisa the Wise teach the ideas of romance and faithfulness.
