First Impressions: How to take a great profile picture!
With online dating, first impressions are often everything. And what do you usually see first? A picture. Because of that, it’s important that you not only pick something that shows off you at your best, but also that you pick something that will catch a woman’s eye.
If the pictures you already have are dated or the kind of thing that an ex has e-mailed you, then it may work best to take a new picture. Here’s an important piece of advice: Don’t use pictures taken of you with another woman (or a more attractive male friend). Cropping the picture so only her arm shows doesn’t cut it, either. A woman wants to picture her arm there. And how can you do that if some other scantily clad women has already cuddled up?
Scared to step up to the camera or that webcam? Here are some tips from Tyra Banks, who hosts America’s Next Top Model: Don’t face the camera head-on, but turn slightly. This can shed a few pounds. Face the light (Also: Grab a lamp if you are by your computer. The light from your screen can wash out your color.). Keep your arms out (again with the slimming) and your teeth parted (this will make the picture look a little more natural). Lose the shoulder pads (unless you’re wearing a suit) and pick a shirt in a solid color.
If that doesn’t work for you or if you really want to make a splash, consider going to have your portrait taken. Some sites online charge big bucks to hook you up with a photographer, but you can do this yourself for less than $10 at places like Wal-Mart or Sears. Many studios like this allow you to purchase your pictures online.
