for believing in what he thought was real. He doesn't mention anything about a "bride", like you say - only that they were going to meet for two weeks and he supplied the tickets.
He is anecdotal in his story so maybe he even sent diamonds too, but one thing is
crystal clear here is that
people should
not send money. There's a huge difference between a airline tickets and your $24 diamond or flower scenario. The talk is about serious losses, not about bling or petals.
Back to basics. Plain and simple. A decent Russian woman would NEVER ask for money or complain about her financial situation. The "nice ones" wont anyway.
If you get a letter where she complains about her low paid occupation, sick relative or broken computer, then be careful.

The best advise by far is to visit them. Whether its Ukriane, Belarus, Russia, or wherever, the trips are easy - though trips
into central Russia and eastern Russia could require connecting flights either from from Sheremetyevo 1 or from other countries like Turkey or Germany. Depends where one is flying from.
