Interesting conversation, unless you live in London, it is generally the slightly better off people who live in villages in the UK, this is because of transport problems, and the fact that railway and bus stations tend to be in towns and cities. Many british people aspire to live in the country.

Interesting points... Many years ago I did an exchange program and studied at "Kings" for a while.. and I think what you say is correct.. and in most cases, also correct here in the US.

The logic is.. "only the poor use public transportation", so if you move away from public transport and drive, you live in a higher class area with people who can afford fuel and an automobile. Of course this is beginning to change now (slowly).

Yes here in Fort Worth and Dallas for many years it was what they call the donut effect where at night and on the weekends down town was completely abandoned.

But now there are new high rise condos from old office buildings. They sale from 500,000 to 5,000,000 some have grocery stores in them.

A lot of the residence live in downtown Forth Worth and work in downtown Dallas they ride the train to Dallas.

A lady from a big city like Moscow or Kiev will never live even in a medium size city.

I have a friend whose wife had worked as a big manager at a bank in Moscow.
She says that a similar job can be found only in New York or San Francisco. Sure, she doesn't want to work as a teller.
