To the lady who is going to visit the USA on a Tourist Visa. I will try to answer your questions. As I do not live in New York or Philadelphia, I can't answer that question.
1. I hear in the bigger cities, like New York or Philadelphia, that a taxi is very popular. You get door-to-door service, which is good.
2. When making International calls, I favor a pre-paid calling card with International minutes. It will be good for a certain amount of minutes based on the country you are calling.
3. In shops, I would recommend paying using a credit card. That way, your currency conversion is done for you automatically. It's faster, too. Make sure your credit card company know you are traveling.
4. The USA is a country of immigrants, so we don't really have a national cuisine. For the most part, you can find nearly any type of food in the larger cities. Certainly New York has a wonderful reputation for their fine restaurants. Otherwise, cuisine is regionalized, based on what's available. So on the Coasts, you will find wonderful seafood restaurants, in the Southwest, Mexican-themed foods are a specialty. In the Midwest, meat & BBQ is very popular. And on the West Coast, due to its relative closeness to Asia, you will find great Asian food. If you were to go to someplace known for tourism, like Las Vegas, you will find an amazing array of 4 & 5-star restaurants. This is a generalization, of course. You are not limited to the choices I listed, but maybe you get the idea of the dining trends.
Probably the finest restaurants are in New York and Los Angeles, but anywhere you go in the country, you will find something to like.
I'm sure some of the other men will have specific recommendations for where you are visiting. You don't need McDonalds
