I have made a K1 visa before for a lady from the Ukraine. Things did not work out because her ex husband would not sign the papers for her son to arrive. She still arrived, but her mood was always bad because her son was not here with her and would not talk with her on the phone. Believe me, she called daily! When it was apparent she could not be happy here without her son, we decided she should return home to be with her son. :( Now this appears to have created another problem. Some of the women I have chatted with do not like that this happened and are now leary of communications with me. So should I disclose this fact or keep it to myself?

I don't have a really good answer for that, but I certainly think honesty is the best policy.

I see positives here. One is, whoever you speak with knows you are capable AND willing to obtain a visa and you have a serious interest to find a mate.

It is a shame about the first lady.... do you ever speak with her? Perhaps circumstances have changed?? I would be interested in hearing more about this because what you say means ANY woman from Ukraine who's ex-husband refuses to sign for the child to leave is not a good prospect.

PLUS...
If she would leave her child, she is not a good Mother, if she can't get the Father to sign, the child can't come.. a bad situation all around.

I wonder if the ladies consider this before beginning serious discussion about marriage and immigration.

Jscottv,

we do still speak on occasion and her circumstances remain the same. She is now continuing with her life by finishing her education and looking for a new job as far as I know. Her ex-husband did tell her that he would sign the paperwork before we filed the Visa paperwork. He did not change his mind until the time came for him to actually sign. My advice to anyone in this situation to obtain the fathers signature as early in the process as possible so you will know if there will be a problem. :( I would not base this on your decision to communicate with a lady here on this site, although similar circumstances could happen. I know we were both at a loss about what would be best decision. We both felt that she would not be happy without her son and I cannot travel to the Ukraine every other month to see her. :( Another point with the disclosure is; if you do not tell, then will it create a problem with a Visa interview for another woman?

why would a father give up his child? lets be real here, would you sign the papers? he understood that the son would probably go with the mother, tough call. I could not even imagine my son moving to a foriegn land.
