It seems most Russians have difficulty getting freedom of travel (requiring visa and/or or proof of pricey tours and hotel bookings) in the EU or almost anywhere outside the eastern CIS "Federation", but they can enter and move freely within Ukraine.

Australians and some others have the converse difficulty: while having freedom of travel in EU, being deprived of free travel options within any Federation state. :(

However, if you have a parent born within any EU country (as many Australians and Americans do), you are probably eligible for applying for an ID and Passport from that EU country. The good news is that EU passport bearers have freedom of travel in Ukraine (no visa requirement). So if you have this possibliity, then Ukraine is potentially an ideal "neutral territory" to meet your Russian (or other CIS) lady, and stay or roam in the country as you wish. :)

And no, I am not a Ukrainian travel agent!

This poster is right with her facts. But please note: if you're from the USA, you need about 60 days to get a Russian visa + hassles with "Registration" upon your arrival. And Moscow is quite expensive! - On the plus side, Moscow has architecture that should not be missed.

By comparison, Ukraine requires no visa. Kiev is a very beautiful city. Okay, I'm from Los Angeles and my Ukraine doctor friend disagrees with me but he remembers an old Kiev I never saw! ;-))

And Kiev / Kyiv has both Russian and Ukraine (there's a difference!) women. Maybe Ukraine (Cossack) girls have a bit better complexion, though.

And it's easier to get around in Ukraine than Russia. And Sevastopol is as hip and beautiful as anything on the Mediterranean.

Good luck.

60 DAYS TO GET VISA ?

are you joking ? i have asked visas (both for tourism and work) from a few different countries = NEVER , i had to wait 60 days !!!

usually , it is 1 week ... one DAY if you accept to pay extra !

so , i am a bit puzzled ... Ukraine is quite good (be careful of corrupted cops : something becoming a rarity in Russia [toward foreigners],is in full swing in Ukraine ..)

Ukraine can be a good choice , as much as Cyprus , Egypt (very cheap from Moscow) ,Morocco ...etc...
all those do not ask for visas , both westerners and eastern peoples ...!!

Everything the rest have said is correct. I met a Belarussian lady on-line who told me that meeting her in Ukraine would be the best for both of us. For her it would be a trip by train from her hometown and for me a trip to Kiev to meet her without a travel visa.

I would certainly be more inclined to want to meet a Ukranian lady because of the ease in travel.

i am really sorry to say this , but WOW ...

would you like to meet someone for their luxurious penthouse in "......." or because of the "...." car they drive or because their parents are "...." or their professional activities is "...." (insert as you wish !)
be VERY careful of not reproducing with eastern women what in some other terms you would reproach them !! (if an Ukrainian sweet-heart you are mad about would tell you "Get off , because you are NOT a surgeon , NOT living in Beverly Hills , NOT having a pink ferrari , NOT a German rocket-scientist , NOT ...etc... etc... "! you would probably be the first one to call her "scam" or "Gold-digger" )

it is probably my French Education (yes the 2 words together are not a non-sens ! ;) ) BUT we are talking about HUMANS and HUMANITY here ... not about picking-up items from a local super-market !!

what about the beauty of life ? that beauty which make you crazy about someone (either of same sex or opposite to yours) REGARDLESS of origins , country , political stance of Govt , etc... etc...

so , please be very careful when stating such things , love is a curious subject = no one can guaranty you won't fall desperately in love with the woman taking out your garbages !!
if most peoples would act accordingly to their wishes or pure interests , Love wouldn't exist or it would be "just" about procreation , raising kids and need for someone doing your laundry and cooking ...

at the same time , be very careful when talking about "opinions" some may have about others : especially when talking about Ukraine Vs Russia ...
if you look at a map of Ukraine , about in the middle of it , you will see a river , to make it simplistic : what is west side is supposed to be pro-european , so against Russia (it is only political BS , E.U. doesn't give a damn about Ukraine[exactly like Turkey] and USA have no word to say on it because European Union is NOT USA !!!) ; what is east side is Ethnic Russian with Ukrainian passport ...which wants to keep on their "link" to Russia !

this is where History is quite Funny , KIEV is where the Russian "Thing" started ... so it is the HISTORIC capital of Russia !
so presenting Ukrainians as peoples who may be against Russia is a very big short-cut i would advice you to be very careful about ...

so YES Ukraine is nice as much as Russia ...
YES , it is a bit simpler to go to Ukraine than to Russia (as someone used to go to Moscow , i can tell you that Russian Visas are not at all difficult to obtain ...off-course you have to stick to THEIR rules ,only fair = it is THEIR country ! have you ever thought on how difficult it is for russians to come to your country ?)

is it so to the point that i wouldn't allow myself the freedom of "thinking with head but feeling with heart" ? would i allow myself ONLY one side of the story in exchange of some ease of travel ? that is a whole different step !!!

am i too romantic for such thoughts ?

I just have one comment on Ukraine vs Russia travel. In the last year or so the political and economic climate in Ukraine has become more unstable than in previous years. Unemployment is high. Unemployed men are resorting to robbing apartments. Government situation is somewhat weak and chaotic. Government in Russia is always considered to be strong, usually overly strong. Economic situation is probably better in Russia right now. So I would give my vote to travel to Russia this year. Getting a visa is not a problem. Five years ago, I would have said go to Ukraine...Kiev is a beautiful city and was much more pleasant a visit than the big city hassle of Moscow. The beach in Sochi is mostly rocks not sand. I hated the beach, but the city was very pleasant and friendly. We went to a restaurant in the countryside outside Sochi. They had 3 bears in cages. One was huge. I think we were the only customers that night.

Forget to mention, if the idea of visiting a former USSR country turns you off, Poland is not a bad place to meet your lady. Krakow is a very popular tourist city (check out Hotel Saski near Old Town). Many Russians go skiing in Zakopane, a nice little ski town, but hotel rooms can be in very short supply. Your lady would love a winter vacation there. And flights to Warsaw are usually pretty reasonable. Most of the under-30 half of the country learned English in school.
