The city of Ekaterinburg, also known as Yekaterinburg or Jekaterinburg, is a major city in central Russia and the administrative center of the Sverdlovsk province or oblast. Between 1924 and 1991, the city was also known as Sverdlovsk, named for the Bolshevik leader Yakov Sverdlov.
